The foundation serves as a leader in improving permanent housing stability and advancing housing equity across Delaware County.
Housing is a key social determinant of health, one that has been long recognized as critically important to building a healthy, equitable county. We have seen firsthand the undeniable, transformative impact of safe, stable housing on children and families. The foundation provides direct housing assistance and services that afford families the opportunity to thrive, experiencing healthier living conditions, better relationships, and safer communities. The foundation is now branching out to play a leadership and convening role with others committed to affordable, stable housing in Delaware County.
The need for affordable, safe, and stable housing has always been a pressing concern for our maternal health programs’ clients but has become even more so since the COVID-19 pandemic. Our HOPE program includes housing placement, case management, tenancy and financial education, connection to resources, and direct financial assistance with rent and utility arrears.
In addition to providing direct services, we also engage in advocacy to address the systemic barriers to healthy permanent housing by serving as a catalyst and convener to collectively build a more equitable housing system in Delaware County.
Safe and healthy housing is critical to long term health. In addition to having the support of case managers, nurses, health educators, and social workers, our maternal health clients can avail themselves of the two full-time attorneys in our Medical-Legal Partnership (HELP: MLP) program. Our attorneys provide legal assistance to clients who need help exercising their legal rights as they navigate the public housing system or manage housing issues, and train the rest of our team to be more effective advocates for our clients.
