Adrianne Cruz and her husband, David, experienced pure joy on July 3 when their honeymoon baby, David “Angelo,” was born. For the next two months they enjoyed their new roles as first-time parents. Tragically, Angelo went down for a nap and never woke up.
The loss of a child is devastating. The Cruz family wanted to do something to keep Angelo’s memory alive, while at the same time helping others. With Adrianne’s mother, Maryann Phillip, Adrianne and David’s family adopted “Cribs for Kids” as their cause.
The project has given them an opportunity to educate families about the importance of safe sleep. It also helps provide families with safe sleep kits and a crib. They hope that Angelo’s spirit is helping families and possibly saving a baby’s life. Educating new parents about the danger of SIDS offered Adrianne and David some relief, and for that they are eternally grateful.
The fundraising has been done in partnership with Independence Blue Cross and Chichester Business Association. It has raised enough to fund hundreds of cribs for families in need. The family is looking to partner with additional groups, so they can do more to promote safe sleep.
