Cribs for Kids® is a safe-sleep education program for low-income parents. It helps reduce the risk of injury and death to infants by providing easy safe sleep messaging to parents, caregivers and community partners. The foundation inherited Cribs for Kids in 2016 but our maternal health programs became an official Cribs for Kids partner in 2006 and have been championing Safe Sleep practices since then. For the last 14 years our staff have been educating families about how to keep their infants safe by promoting the A-B-Cs of Safe Sleep. Babies should be ALONE, always on their BACKS, in an uncluttered CRIB each and every time they are placed down for sleep. In addition to education, staff have also provided safe cribs to those most in need in Delaware County.
Many deaths that previously would have been classified as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS, or an unexplained death before 1 year old), are now attributed to sleep-related causes. While there has been a major decrease in the incidence of SIDS since 1992 due to Back-to-Sleep educational campaigns at the national, state and local levels, preventable deaths are still occurring in Delaware County. You can help us do our part to prevent sleep related deaths and help every infant celebrate their first birthday.
