In 2023, 21.5 million people in the U.S. identified as Hispanic or Latino immigrants, making up 33% of the total Hispanic/Latino population (Batalova, 2025). Many face barriers to healthcare, education, employment, and housing. In fact, nearly one in ten adult immigrants report avoiding essential services—such as health, food, and housing assistance—due to fear or uncertainty (Drishti Pillai, 2023).
For more than 20 years, Centro de Apoyo Comunitario has been a trusted resource for Delaware County’s immigrant community. Founded by local Latina immigrant women, the center provides essential human services while fostering strength, knowledge, and empowerment. It offers a safe space where families can connect, support one another, and navigate life in a new community.
Centro provides culturally and linguistically accessible resources to help immigrants understand their rights and navigate key systems, such as healthcare and education. The center also raises awareness in the broader community, celebrating Latino heritage through art, cooking, and cultural events to showcase the strength and contributions of immigrant families.
Some of the programs that the center offers are the Community Connections Program, Case Management and Referrals Program, and the New Family Welcoming Center. They also provide Emergency Assistance and Social and Emotional Support.
The Foundation’s Center for Non-Profit Excellence (CNEx) has played a role in the growth and development of the center. The CNEx has provided Centro de Apoyo Comunitario with partnerships, tools, and training that have contributed to its success and growth throughout the years. Find out more about the CNEx!
You can connect with the center on their website: centroapoyo.org. Donations can be made directly through the website.
