The Foundation for Delaware County Welcomes New Board Members

The Foundation for Delaware County introduces the Community Needs Impact Fund.

The Foundation for Delaware County has elected three new board members and appointed four new officers to its board of directors.

Joining as new board members are James N. Harper, Jr., Michael N. Mattise, CFP®, and Mia I. Mendoza .

The new officers are Cyrise L. Dixon as chairman; Michael B. Magnavita, CPA, as vice-chairman; Kelly Thornton as secretary and Ted Peters as treasurer.

Together, the foundation’s Board of Directors will lead the largest philanthropy in Delaware County.

“We are thrilled to have the depth and breadth of experience and leadership represented in this slate of new board members and officers. I am confident they will lead the Foundation for Delaware County to greater heights,” says Frances Sheehan, president. “It is an exciting time for the foundation. The diverse experience of our board members will provide leadership to address the challenges facing our county and they will be a real asset as we continue building a philanthropic engine moving Delaware County forward.”

James N. Harper Jr., of Wallingford, is the Business Manager for Laborers’ Local #413.

James Harper

James is President of the Laborers’ District Council of Philadelphia and Vicinity and is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the union’s Health & Welfare, Pension and Training Funds and Vice President of the Delaware County AFL-CIO.

He was appointed by Gov. Tom Wolf to serve on the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board and is a member of the Delaware County Economic Development Oversite Board of Directors and the Chester Economic Development Authority.

Michael Mattise

Michael N. Mattise, CFP®, of Newtown Square, is President & Chief Investment Officer at Radnor Financial Advisors, LLC.

Mike is also a Senior Member of Radnor’s Investment Policy Group (IPG), researching and developing strategies for all investment decisions regarding client portfolios.

Mia L. Mendoza

Mia I. Mendoza, of Media, is the Founder of Mendoza Group Inc., the first full-service Hispanic advertising and marketing agency in the tri-state area.

Mia’s volunteer and board service include America’s First Fair Trade Town and Catholic Partnership Schools.

Mia has also served on the boards of Philadelphia’s Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania’s Commission for Women.

Cyrise L. Dixon

Cyrise L. Dixon was the first female patrol officer in the City of Chester and currently is the Chief Operating Officer for the City of Chester, and formerly the Chief of Staff for the Chester Police Department.

Ms. Dixon currently serves on the boards of the Chester Community Improvement Program, Delaware County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation, and Senior Community Services.

In addition to her previous role as Secretary of the foundation’s board, Cyrise has been the co-chair of the foundation’s Racial Equity Task Force for the last two years.

Michael B. Magnavita

Michael B. Magnavita is President and CEO of Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (“FMFCU”).

He presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Good Fellowship Ambulance & EMS Training Institute, Delaware County Community College Educational Foundation and White Horse Village.

In addition to his service on the foundation’s board, Mike chaired the foundation’s Delaware County COVID-19 Response Fund, raising and distributing over $1 million to food banks and other nonprofits facing challenges due to the pandemic.

Kelly Thornton

Kelly Thornton, of Newtown Square, is a Higher Education & Health Services Assurance Partner in the Philadelphia office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC).

At PwC, Kelly also leads Diversity and Inclusion for the Mid-Atlantic Market and previously coordinated the firm’s corporate responsibility activities in Philadelphia.

Kelly recently served as a member of the foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund Advisory Committee.

In addition, she currently serves on the boards of Delaware County Literacy Council; Visiting Nurses Association of Greater Philadelphia; Communities in Schools of Philadelphia; and Garrett Williamson.

Kelly is also chair of the foundation’s Audit Committee.

Ted Peters

Ted Peters, of Bryn Mawr, is chairman and CEO of Bluestone Financial Institutions Fund, and former chairman and CEO of Bryn Mawr Bank Corporation and the Bryn Mawr Trust Company.

He served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia from 2009-14.
